  • First time to Australia I've been to Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne and all three were amazing. If you do get to Tasmania, the Bruny Island Charter is a really cool boat trip on the Tasman Sea. Going to the top of Mt Wellington and to the Tahune Forest are great too. Its a really beautiful place and there is a lot to see and do there. If you're in Hobat on Saturday, the Salamanca market will be in full swing and you can't miss it. Food, handmade crafts and souveniers - its a great shopping and dining adventure. In Melbourne, we stayed on the Yarra River and it was a great area for venturing out into the city. We went and saw the Little Blue Penguin Parade which was really awesome, but take the short tour - the all day one takes you to a couple places that really aren't all that and you can spend that time exploring the city instead. For a really nice outdoor wildlife experience, try Echidna Walkabout Tours - they take you into the bush to see wild kangaroos, koalas and other animals and treat you to a nice lunch outdoors. It was a great day. All three cities to me were fabulous and I'd go back again in a heartbeat. We never felt uncomfortable walking around any of the cities day or night - very friendly, clean and safe. The public transportation is easy to use in Sydney and Melbourne, so don't be afraid to just go wandering! Have a great time!

  • Tips for Getting Around Sydney What you say is true. The Manly ferry is a beautiful trip. I figured the cheapest way to get around Sydney on all Government transport (ie Cityrail, STA Buses, STA Ferries) is the Day tripper.
