I grew up knowing about the beginnings of the colony and were taught to be quite proud of our convict ancestor. While his crimes were never glossed over it was always softened by the knowledge of how impossible England was at the time, and my ancestor made very good here, probably one of the most wealthy of the ex-convicts. A lot of Ausies might not know details of the first colony but you can be sure those ones won't be descendants of the First Fleet. Nice little blurb for Sydney though, pop down for a visit any time and ask around for First Fleet descendants.
