All the bus, train and ferry advice is good, but don't miss the Manly to Spit Bridge hike. Take the ferry from Circular Quay over to Manly and start the walk. It is just fantastic and meanders over rocks, through trees, along by beaches and in amongst neighbourhoods. Here is a map: http://www.manlyaustralia.com.au/information/what_to_do/walks/walkway.asp
