General itinerary:- Flinders Ranges - 4 days
- Oodnadatta Track - 5 days
- Alice Springs - Red Centre 10 days
Trip highlights:
The rugged mountains of the
Flinders RangesTravelling along the
Oodnadatta Track was a true Outback adventure. The relics of the old ghan railway, the loneliness, mound springs, there's so much to see.
Of course
Uluru was the highlight of this trip. It's a magic place.
"Absolute must-sees" to pass along:
Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges.
Stay a day in
Marree and discover the rich history of this tiny Outback town.
Rainbow Valley off Stuart Highway about 120 km south of Alice Springs.
Best wildlife encounters: The huge flocks of budgerigars, wedge-tailed eagles hovering in the clear blue sky.
Unfortunately, we didn't see many lizards.
What surprised me most: The changes of the scenery. The Outback is not boring (as probably some people think). The colours are amazing.
Advice I want to pass along: If you go on your own, be sure to have a reliable car, carry lots of water, and just be prepared. Take
Outback safety seriously.
Best hotels: (link to them so others can check them out!):I didn't stay in hotels, it was a camping trip.
The
Wilpena Pound Campground is wonderful, a huge place with trees. There is also motel style accommodation available.
The campground at Yulara was also pretty good. It is the cheapest way to stay at the
Yulara resort.
Favorite meals: (be sure to include the restaurant name and city!)
The Rooburger at the
Prairie Hotel in Parachilna, Flinders Ranges
