We found it really difficult to find a decent second-hand campervan, we had to trawl the hostel notice boards and reply to ads that were weeks out of date. Black flies in the Outback: I wish I had known about the black flies that swarm around you in the Outback (and also in Sydney, which surprised me!). They are super annoying, and I would have brought some bug spray or a face net with me. Anyone have ideas on how to deter them?! --heidianna
2.3. I was wadering around central Sydney in January a few years ago, plagued by the darn things! They didn't seem to be bothering anyone else. I asked a local. He advised "Bushman" Bug repellant and sunscreen. It worked like a charm! --daveandmelanie
