Introduction I joined this Wiki because I love Australia and Aussies in general. I traveled to Sydney and the Blue Mountains several years ago and in November 2007 traveled through Southeast Queensland. I have a couple of good Aussie expat friends, and ideally I'd like to go back with one of them someday for a true insider's experience. My travels have also taken me to Canada, Latin America, Europe, and much of the U.S. As a product of the suburbs, I enjoy traveling to large cities as well as remote wilderness areas...for something "completely different" from my day-to-day life. One of my favorite trips was to Costa Rica on an Earthwatch expedition. For two weeks I worked on a scientific research project studying rainforest caterpillars on remote preserves. I spent another week traveling the country's mountains, volcanoes, and beaches with a Parisian friend I met in the group. On a return trip to Australia, I'd love to visit Sydney again, and also see Melbourne and the Great Barrier Reef. I'd also like to go back to Brisbane. Every year in early August, "Greazefest" is held there for fans of rockabilly music and culture. I am a big fan of the genre and have so far traveled to rockabilly music festivals in Las Vegas, San Francisco, Austin, Indianapolis, Green Bay, Seattle, and Montreal. My musician friends who've performed at previous Greazefests have told me how fun it is! Alas, as a teacher, I get great vacation times but am not well-paid. So I often have the time, but not the money, to travel as much as I'd like. I have been fortunate to travel for free twice: once via an educator's grant, and recently by winning that Aussie Week trip to Queensland. I've created a trip report of that trip on this site. I'd also like to hear from other Australia Travel Wiki members for travel tips and suggestions.    =================================================================================================
